Desert Mountain Four Wheel Drive Club

DMFWDC is a family-friendly 4x4 club based in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Welcome to the Desert Mountain Four Wheel Drive Club website.

We’re a group of off-road enthusiasts who enjoy exploring local trails, learning from each other, and spending time outdoors with good people. Whether you’re brand new to off-roading or have years of trail experience, you’re welcome here.

Trails for Every Skill Level

Our area offers a wide variety of terrain, and our club runs reflect that. We explore everything from easy scenic forest roads to more technical trails and extreme buggy routes.

  • Beginner-friendly trails for stock or lightly modified vehicles
  • Moderate trails for drivers looking to build skills and confidence
  • Advanced and extreme trails for highly built rigs and experienced drivers

Trail difficulty is always communicated ahead of time, so you know what to expect and can choose runs that match your comfort level.

New to Off-Roading? No Problem.

If you’re new to four-wheeling, you don’t need to worry about “keeping up” or having the perfect setup. Many of our members started with stock vehicles and learned as they went.

On a typical club run, you can expect:

  • A friendly, supportive group of drivers
  • A short driver meeting before hitting the trail
  • Spotting and guidance when needed
  • An emphasis on safety, teamwork, and fun

We believe off-roading should be enjoyable, not stressful.

Monthly Runs & Club Activities

We host regular trail runs and events throughout the year. Our schedule includes local trails, special trips, and club gatherings that give members a chance to get to know each other off the trail as well.

Check out our Events page to see upcoming runs and events.

Responsible Off-Roading

Desert Mountain 4WD Club is committed to responsible land use and trail stewardship. We promote:

  • Tread Lightly principles
  • Respect for public lands
  • Safe and courteous trail behavior

We want to make sure these trails stay open and enjoyable for years to come.

Third times a charm. So Mike and I did a little exploring and we found a way into the power lines without going up any scary hills or across any wash outs that would swallow a whole Jeep. Come and join us for some more fun while the weather is still bearable.

Explore The Trails

The Desert Mountain Four Wheel Drive Club brings together outdoor enthusiasts who share a passion for exploring rugged landscapes and challenging terrain. The club’s trail system offers a wide range of experiences, from scenic desert routes and mountain passes to technical rock crawling and sandy washes, ensuring opportunities for drivers of all skill levels. To navigate these diverse trail types, members use a variety of capable vehicles, including stock and modified four-wheel-drive vehicles, side-by-sides and specialized off-road rigs equipped for durability and safety. Together, the trails and vehicles reflect the club’s commitment to adventure, responsible off-roading, and the enjoyment of the desert and mountain environments.

Trail of the Month

March

Greg's Gulch in Coyote Canyon

Greg’s Gulch is a moderate trail with ledges to climb and rock gardens to navigate. We have rated it a 5.  I would recommended you have a 4×4 with at least 33 inch tires and a traction device (limited slip or locker) to get through the actual trail as it is meant to be run.  There are by-passes for some obstacles, but where’s the fun in that.  With that being said you can do it with a side by side.

Greg’s Gulch was once called The Three Amigos, but after the early passing of one of our club members the trail was renamed in honor of Greg and all the great things he did for the club. We are still wheeling the trails you helped develop my friend, rest in peace.

Hmmm, is this even Greg's Gulch? Looks like Greg running the Gauntlet to me.
